Zócalo Apartments Welcomes New Program Director of First-in-Houston Artist-In-Residency Program

HOUSTON, TX - Zócalo Apartments is pleased to announce Ileana Yordan has been named Program Director of the newly established Zócalo Artist-In-Residency Program (ZAIR) launching this summer.

Zócalo Apartments is the first multi-family residential property in Houston to create an artist in residence program at its apartment community. The groundbreaking program will provide no-cost housing and exhibition space for emerging and established Texas-based visual artists selected by an expert panel of local curators and artists. A one-year and two six-month residencies will be offered each year. The three selected artists will have the opportunity for art shows on Zócalo Apartments 10-acre Spring Branch campus and the freedom to create site-specific installations designed to engage with Zócalo’s residents and the greater Houston arts community.

Ileana Yordan was most recently Gallery Manager at Houston’s Catherine Couturier Gallery and she holds a Masters in Arts Leadership from the University of Houston. As a partner and Creative Director at the Olaju Art Group, she previously managed and curated exhibitions, educational programs, and an artist residency program focused on introducing contemporary West African Art to Texas.

Yordan is joining Zócalo Apartments as it is nearing completion of its $10 million dollar renovation. Zócalo’s colorful exterior and lush landscaping are already a distinct presence in the heart of Spring Branch’s renaissance.

I look forward to engaging with the Houston art community as we launch this groundbreaking effort.”

Zócalo Apartments is located at 8787 Hammerly Blvd. Houston, TX 77080. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9am-6pm, Saturday,10am-5pm and Sunday, 1pm-5pm.
