Cadence Luxury Apartment Community Breaks Ground in South San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - San Mateo-based Sares Regis Group of Northern California (SRGNC) celebrated the groundbreaking of the Cadence luxury apartment community on Thursday, March 18th with a ceremony held onsite at Cypress Avenue in South San Francisco. In addition to representatives from the San Mateo-based real estate developer, several South San Francisco city officials were in attendance, including Mayor Pradeep Gupta. The mayor gave a speech before accepting a ceremonial shovel from SRGNC to symbolize the beginning of a new stage of development for the city.

“Housing is one of our top priorities in South San Francisco, and this is a key project that begins to meet our housing needs,” says City Manager Mike Futrell. “Cadence’s close location to both Caltrain and Grand Avenue will help support a vibrant, successful downtown.” Located on just under two acres over two blocks, the 225,000-square-foot project will consist of 260 high-quality apartments across five stories and over two levels of parking. Cadence will offer residents a rooftop lounge, fitness center, club rooms, and landscaped courtyards.

Designed by TCA Architects, Cadence brings together elements from South San Francisco’s manufacturing past and high-tech future. The result is an architectural design aesthetic that is modern, yet industrial and progressive. This project is thoughtfully located to create a sense of community and promote visual connectivity between Miller Ave. and the city. According to Thomas Cox, Founder and CEO of TCA, “Our design for Cadence takes its inspiration from the city’s industrial past and its technologically advanced future, to create an aesthetic that is both modern and industrial. The buildings have clean lines that frame classic proportions, incorporating natural materials and metals. The entryways and paths of travel have been strategically designed to create a sense of community, encourage pedestrian traffic, and promote visual connectivity between Cadence and the city.”

The project also includes a $5.7M contribution from SRGNC that will go towards improvements to community parks, pedestrian connections, water lines, storm drains, and public art. Streetscape improvements on Miller and Cyprus Avenues and Airport Boulevard will include enhanced sidewalks, furniture, street trees, lighting, and bicycle improvements. Scheduled for occupancy in the Fall of 2018, Cadence is designed to be LEED Certified Silver.

“We’re excited to break ground on Cadence, and enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate the event with our partners,” says Ken Busch, Senior Vice President for SRGNC. “We believe this new community will encourage more pedestrian traffic in the area that will benefit local businesses. Cadence will be an important first step to revitalizing downtown South San Francisco.”
