James J. Wermers initially began building single-family homes throughout the San Diego region. When Tom Wermers, his son, was appointed CEO in 1993, the focus shifted to multi-family construction. Through Tom’s guidance, Wermers has become one of the largest multi-family builders in the country while simultaneously broadening their scope to include development and investment platforms. As the company's portfolio continues to grow, Wermers remains commited to being on the cutting edge of planning, programming, and construction execution for its many partners.

With tens of thousands of units built and through consistent leadership in the industry, the Wermers name is synonymous with top-quality multi-family construction. In 2006, Tom saw an opportunity to expand on Wermers’ culture and core competencies in the multi-family business and founded Wermers Properties, a full-range development firm that is uniquely positioned by Wermers’ long-standing knowledge and relationships in the industry. Presently, Tom's sons, Branden, Josh, and Austin continue the legacy of the family company by working on the company’s projects throughout the Southwest.

Family values are evident beyond kin at Wermers. It is a tight-knit company, with an executive team that has been working together for nearly 30 years. Senior management shares their experience with the company’s next generation of leaders, training them to maintain the excellence Wermers has become known to provide. “It is surreal when I reflect on how far we’ve come—from building smaller twenty and thirty unit projects thirty years ago to becoming a key player in many of the largest multi-family projects in California,” said Jeff Bunker, President of Wermers Multi-Family Corporation. Tom Wermers enjoys working with his three sons and a loyal team of professionals to realize the full potential of these projects. “I realize that we’ve come a long way from being a small construction business, but we’ve preserved those same values and sentiments that have built our brand—continuous improvement, unwaivering accountability, and proven results. If we keep up the formula and continue to expand our diverse portfolio of projects, there is nothing we can’t accomplish,” said Tom Wermers.

Sixty years ago, James J. Wermers envisioned a family-run construction business that has today become an industry leader in multi-family construction and development. Built by the fundamental values of hard work and family, Wermers Companies is a testament of corporate longevity and industry excellence.
