The Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority has appointed Valarie M. Williams as Executive Director. Williams is not new to the role, as she has been serving as the Authority's Interim Executive Director since May 2, 2007. Her responsibilities include leading the operational and strategic efforts of the Authority.
"With the mission of creating quality affordable housing opportunities for the citizens of South Carolina, the Authority required a leader with vision and management expertise" Board Chairman Chris Fraser said, "Ms. Williams' wealth of experience, management success and commitment to the advancement of the affordable housing industry will be valued assets in our ongoing efforts."
Williams joined the Authority in 1992, and has served in a variety of capacities including Deputy Director of Programs, Housing Development Director, and Housing Initiatives Director. She is looking forward to the challenges her new position brings.
"This is an exciting time in the evolution of affordable housing." Williams said, "I look forward to working with our industry partners as we continue our momentum towards the development of improved business models, and enhanced programs and services for the citizens of South Carolina."
Her career has been dedicated to creating housing and economic development opportunities for the state and advocating for policies that elevate the well being of the affordable housing industry. She has served on community boards and advisory committees and has worked with national, state and local stakeholders to help shape policies in support of the agency's initiatives.
Williams has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Arts Degree in Business Management from Webster University. She is a graduate of the South Carolina Executive Institute and is a member of the Association of Certified Public Managers, Development Finance Professionals, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Williams, a native of Sumter, SC, currently resides in Columbia with her husband and two children.
