John Steinbeck Speaks at Univ Maryland MRED

The legendary John Stainback, President of Stainback Public Private Real Estate, based in Houston, TX, came back to his alma mater this past weekend to offer a one-hour intensive course for 10 lucky students in the MRED program.

John Stainback, is an architect (B.Arch University of Maryland, M.Arch University of Pennsylvania), community planner (CMP University of Pennsylvania) and financial guru (formerly with Lehman Brothers), and today is the leading consultant to governmental entities (80%) and developers (20%) in the most complex public-private partnership financing being undertaken today.

The students were wowed and got an in-depth look at what highly complex financing can do to support new mixed-income, mixed-use development for towns and cities that need new infrastructure and refurbished retail and housing districts. MRED looks to expand this initial course to a four-course Certificate in Public Private Development with hopes to start offering it in Fall 2008.

There are currently over 50 students enrolled in the MRED, MPS, and Certificate real estate development programs. Applications for Spring 2008 are being processed now. The international program(s) are not yet available.
