NAAEI Honors Englewood Cliff’s Mike Beirne of The Kamson Corporation for Leadership in Apartment Industry Education

ARLINGTON, VA - Over his 30-year career in real estate and residential property management, the Kamson Corporation’s Michael Beirne has benefited professionally from the mentors who helped guide him and now gives back to the industry by mentoring others, earning him recognition by the National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) with its 2015 Apartment Career and Education (ACE) Award.

“Mike has a passion for the industry,” said NAAEI President Diana Pittro, ARM. “He takes his role as a mentor and an industry ambassador very seriously. He has written a definitive guide on property management that is used in preparing people to work in our industry. He also played a key role in the creation of the property management degree program at Drexel University where he continues to serve as chair of the university’s Property Management Industry Advisory Board.”

Beirne started his career working at the site level and rose through the industry ranks to his current position as executive vice president at the Kamson Corporation, which owns and manages more than 16,000 apartment homes in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut. He is author of the “The Property Management Tool Kit” and teaches and develops courses for Drexel’s property management program. He also serves on NAAEI’s board of directors and often teaches property management courses for NAAEI and its Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) professional designation program.

“Mike uses his place in the industry to reach audiences in person, online, in print and on the air,” said Legow Management Company’s David Legow, who nominated Beirne for the award. “He has gone to universities, high schools and the trades constantly touting the industry as an exciting career path. He also works very hard at career development within the industry, identifying and educating the next generation of our leaders at all levels.”

Beirne has served as a volunteer leader on the boards of the New Jersey Apartment Association, Newark Apartment Owners Association, Pennsylvania Apartment Association East, National Apartment Association and NAAEI’s Curriculum Development and Apartment Careers committees. He and his staff also have participated in developing degree and/or certification programs with Rutgers University and Temple University.

For his leadership, Beirne was recognized as part of the 2015 NAA Education Conference and Exposition held in late June in Las Vegas. The NAAEI Apartment Career and Education (ACE) Awards recognize outstanding achievement in the field of apartment career development. The ACE Awards are given annually and are awarded to both volunteer leaders and professional educators.
