PITTSBURGH, PA - Village Green, one of the nation’s largest privately owned luxury apartment owners and operators, broke ground on a brand new, mid-rise, mixed-use rental apartment community in the Southside Works Corridor of Pittsburgh on Friday, January 30th.
The development includes 264 luxury apartments, 12,000 square feet of commercial retail space and a 562 space parking garage, all opening in early 2016. The builder is Rycon Construction of Pittsburgh.
The Art Deco inspired development will be called Southside Works City Apartments. It is adjacent to a brand new office building and marina. “This will be the largest luxury apartment development in the area. It completes a major element of the Southside Works master plan, bringing more residents to one of Pittsburgh’s most dynamic neighborhoods. The apartments will provide a 24/7 live, work and play lifestyle, and the parking garage will enable more business, recreational and entertainment use of the waterfront,” said Jonathan Holtzman, CEO of Village Green.
This is Village Green’s second brand new rental apartment development in Pittsburgh and the company has received a warm welcome from the city, “We’re so pleased that Village Green has entered the Pittsburgh market at the Southside Works,” said Robert Rubinstein, acting executive director of the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh. “The quality of their development and the proximity to the Monongahela River will play a significant role in fulfilling Mayor Bill Peduto’s goal of attracting 20,000 new residents to the city.” The Soffer Organization, which owned the land were also pleased, stating “We looked long and hard for an outstanding company to provide the residential component of our vision of the Southside Works. The new luxury apartment community will have an on-site restaurant/café/specialty market, views of the Monongahela River and feature resident and guest boutique hotel style lobby, concierge services, indoor/outdoor pool, 24 hour fitness center, business center and conference room, Zen Garden and courtyard park, and a Club Room with bar, televisions, fireplace and gourmet kitchen.
There will be nano, studio, convertible, one and two bedroom apartments, and penthouses in 53 unique floor plans. Interior features include 9’-12’ ceilings with wood flooring; kitchens with granite countertops and three finish packages; bathrooms with oversized bathtubs, full size washers and dryers, custom closets, fireplaces, patios, balconies and oversized windows with views of the river and Pittsburgh skyline. Leasing begins this summer.
Village Green’s plan is to develop and purchase for redevelopment five luxury rental apartment communities in Pittsburgh. The company’s Morrow Park City Apartments in the Bloomfield / Shadyside neighborhood is under construction. It is scheduled to open summer 2015 with leasing beginning in April.
