IRVINE, CA - TCA Architects (TCA), a full service architecture firm and noted leader in the design of progressive multifamily and mixed-use urban residential developments, is pleased to announce that five of their projects have been selected as finalists in the 2014 Gold Nugget Awards. “The Gold Nugget Awards recognize the very best in our industry and we are thrilled to have five merit awards in five separate categories,” said Aram Chahbazian, TCA president. “At TCA, we are passionate about what we do and as architects, we take pride in shaping quality living environments and communities.”
The Gold Nugget Awards Program, presented by the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC), recognizes those who improve the community through exceptional concepts in design, planning, and development. The grand winners of each category will be announced during the PCBC Show on June 26 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco.
Project: G12 – Downtown Los Angeles, CA
Category: Best on the Boards Mixed Use Project
G12 is a 640-unit mixed use apartment complex being developed by The Wolff Company in the bourgeoning South Park district of Downtown Los Angeles. Between the 2 buildings, the project features over 37,000 square feet of retail and boasts an impressive bike-to-car ratio. The first phase at the corner of Pico and Olive broke ground May of 2014.
Project: AMLI MDR – Marina del Rey, CA
Category: Best on the Boards Multifamily Community (under 100 dwelling units per acre (du/ac)
The waterfront property, developed by AMLI Residential, is scheduled for completion in 2017 and will feature 585 units of mixed-use apartments arranged in six separate buildings. Each building will contain a lobby on the promenade with an elevator, clubhouse, and amenity space designed by H. Hendy Associates
The design of AMLI-MDR mimics the aesthetics of a boathouse, featuring exposed rafters and large corner windows. Buildings will be clad in a combination of fiber cement paneling, wood screen, plaster and stone. At ground level, plans call for wide, pedestrian friendly green space to bisect the property, preserving views of the Marina and encouraging foot traffic along the waterfront. Select buildings will have either a roof top deck or landscaped garden by MJS Design Group. The property will also feature pool areas, fireplace structures, monument walls, trellises, plazas and promenades.
Project: El Monte Veteran’s Village – El Monte, CA
Category: Best Affordable Housing Project (30-60 du/ac)
El Monte Veteran’s Village is a pioneer in the efforts to create affordable, supportive housing for homeless veterans of the Los Angeles area. The 41-unit project is 100% affordable and is registered with the Enterprise Green Communities as well as Energy Star for Homes. The recently opened three-story community features 40 studio apartments and 2,400 SF of common and recreational space developed by Mercy Housing. The Alpha Construction built property also features on-site management, a community garden, barbecue area, community room with kitchen, lounge area, computer center, on-site laundry facility, and energy efficient design and appliances.
Project: The Villas at ICIS – Glendale, CA
Category: Best Multifamily Housing Project (18-30 du/ac)
The Villas at ICIS are located on a quiet residential street in Glendale that straddles the boundary of an adjacent industrial zone in this particular neighborhood. The project is comprised of 14, three-story townhomes developed by Alliance Residential and offers an extensive array of amenities such as a resident’s club, business center, resort-style pool and spa, Zen garden, courtyard with cabanas, fitness center, and game room.
Project: Domain San Diego – San Diego, CA
Category: Best Multifamily Housing Project (30-60 du/ac)
TCA designed the 379-unit luxury apartment community Domain San Diego as an ultra-modern, high-density apartment community targeting the young professionals and students of San Diego's growing Millennial population. The project was awarded a Grand Award (1st Place) in the “Best Garden Apartment Community” category from the National Association of Home Builders at their 2013 Pillars of the Industry Awards last year.
Developed by Wood Partners, the property features a 5,500-square-foot recreation center that offers an expansive pool area with cabanas, a spa, barbeque pits, waterfall and trellises that take advantage of the area's temperate weather. With more than 12 floor plans to choose from, Domain's interiors’ reflect a refined modern influence, featuring private patios, stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, large oval tubs, and floor-to-ceiling windows in select units.
