Local Maintenance Professionals Named Maintenance Mania Champions at FCAA Event

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The First Coast Apartment Association (FCAA) spotlighted local property maintenance technicians in the Maintenance Mania®, annual nationwide competition at the University of North Florida (UNF) University Center.

Racing against the clock over 100 participants competed in eight maintenance-focused challenges. Representing local apartment communities they tested their maintenance skills and knowledge of the industry as they competed to earn the title of the Maintenance Mania® National Champion.

Jimmy Garcia of Avistele at Ponte Vedra took home top honors in the Fluidmaster Duo Flush Toilet Conversion, Frigidaire Icemaker Installation and Kidde Fire & Carbon Monoxide Safety Installation.

Eric Hoyt of Avesta Sunbeam also won first place in three categories, Seasons Ceiling Fan Installation, Kwikset Key Control Deadbolt Test and CFG Faucet Installation.

Lee Caudill of WRH Realty Services had the best time in the Bradford White Water Heater Installation.

The finale of the event concluded with the Motorolla & Niagra Conservation Race Car Competition. Competitors built a model car using at least one maintenance product or part and raced it down a pinewood derby-style track. James Frangella of Courtney Manor won the top spot in that category.

“It was a very exciting night. The room was packed with spectators and competitors. Congratulations to all the winners,” said Brian Davies of WRH Realty Services, president FCAA.

Top five overall winners were Garcia in first, followed by Hoyt, Kyle Slagel, Addison Landing; Brandon Gay, Fieldstone Village Apartments and John Sprouse, Avesta Midtown.

Sponsored by HD Supply and in conjunction with the National Apartment Association, local winners of Maintenance Mania will now move on to the next round at the Florida Apartment Association’s annual meeting in October.

“These maintenance professionals are essential to the success and viability of the apartment industry, HD Supply is extremely proud to be able to help shine a light on such an outstanding group of individuals,” said Eileen Walker of HD Supply. Steve Thomas, Maintenance Supply Headquarters and Walker chaired the event.

The FCAA event was one of 70 local events scheduled across the country. Last year two local winners went to Nationals.

Founded in 1979, the FCAA serves the apartment industry in Duval, Clay, St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam, and Nassau Counties.  FCAA’s mission is to promote, inform and serve the apartment industry through education, legislation, and professional networking.
