Soo Line Building City Apartments in Minneapolis Celebrates Grand Opening

FARMINGTON, MI - Village Green celebrated the completion of its latest historic luxury development, Soo Line Building City Apartments, fourteen months after officially breaking ground and nearly two months after welcoming its first residents.

“As a 100-year-old private company, Village Green specializes in historic conversions,” said Jonathan Holtzman, CEO, Village Green. “What we’ve accomplished at Soo Line Building City Apartments is unlike anything in Minneapolis/Saint Paul or other Midwest cities. This community represents the best building Village Green has ever developed.”

Village Green set the high-rise trend in downtown Minneapolis with the development of Soo Line Building City Apartments. Since then, a few new high-rise communities have joined the landscape, but Soo Line Building City Apartments has certainly set the new standard for luxury high-rise living in Minneapolis.

A unique detail of Soo Line Building City Apartments is the outdoor rooftop Sky Park and indoor Sky Club, the brand new amenity spaces added to the 20th floor of the historic building. The community features 254 luxury apartments and first and second floor retail, dining and office space.

"Village Green has breathed new life into the historic Soo Line Building," said Minneapolis Councilwoman Lisa Goodman. "Soo Line Building City Apartments is Village Green's latest addition to Minneapolis, and it is a spectacular housing option for renters looking to live downtown."

Village Green owns the community in partnership with Compatriot Capital, the Dallas-based operating and investment subsidiary of Sammons Enterprises. U.S. Bank and Associated Bank provided additional capital resources; Frana Companies and Advanced Masonry Restoration completed the interior and exterior renovation and restoration; and BKV Group and Wiss, Janney Elstner Associates, Inc. served as architects; Toronto’s LA Ads, Inc. developed the branding; Damon Farber created the landscape architecture and BKV and Village Green Interiors styled the common areas.

"U.S. Bank has a longtime partnership with Village Green and a rich history at the Soo Line Building," said Zack Boyers, chairman and chief executive officer of U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corporation, the community development subsidiary of U.S. Bank. "Supporting the building's rehabilitation is an honor. Its new amenities and high-quality residential units increase the vibrancy and livability of downtown Minneapolis."

Completed in 1915, the Soo Line Building was originally built for the First National Bank of Minneapolis, a predecessor of U.S. Bank.

Soo Line Building City Apartments is a green building, meeting the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Green Building Program standards. The boutique hotel-style community features 42 unique studio-to-penthouse floor plans, ranging in size from 450 sq. ft. to 1,500 sq.ft. Apartments offer 10’6” to 24’ ceilings, three interior finish packages, including hardwood floors, custom closets, Sexy Bathrooms and granite kitchen islands – all with stunning skyline views of downtown Minneapolis and the Mississippi River through over-sized windows.

Village Green owns and manages 12 apartment communities in Minneapolis/Saint Paul, entering the Minnesota market in the mid-90s. Each Village Green community has contributed to a vibrant downtown, providing rental housing options for young professionals, employees of downtown-based companies and corporate relocation clients, as well as Empty Nesters looking to take advantage of an ‘urban core’ lifestyle. V-Suites, Village Green’s short- and long-term housing company, will be the exclusive provider of corporate housing at Soo Line Building City Apartments.
