Lexington Homes Starts Sales at Gateway Following The Grand Opening of 25 New Townhomes in Downtown Northbrook

NORTHBROOK, IL - Chicago-based Lexington Homes announces sales are underway and off to a fast start at Gateway, a new enclave of 25 townhomes in downtown Northbrook, Ill., where eight homes are already under contract after the community’s recent grand opening. Located at 1181 Shermer Road, just west of Route 43, Gateway features the recent redesign of Lexington’s popular Mews series townhomes, characterized by larger designs with a more efficient use of square footage. First deliveries are expected to begin in spring 2026.

“With the current pent-up demand for homes in this area and throughout Chicagoland, we are already more than 30% sold coming off the grand opening of Gateway, so interested buyers should not delay coming into our sales center to see if one of our 17 remaining homes is right for them,” said Jeff Benach, principal of Lexington Homes. “Gateway offers a great opportunity for buyers to find a brand-new townhome that rivals the size of a single-family home and is outfitted with high-end finishes. Plus, they have the choice of two flexible floor plans that can be customized with up to four bedrooms and 3½ baths.”

According to Benach, initial homebuyers at Gateway are primarily from the Northbrook and general North Shore area, with some coming from the city. “Our first buyers are a mix of young couples, some with children, as well as empty nesters, who are all seeking the conveniences of maintenance-free townhome living,” he said. “Gateway’s Northbrook location is a major draw, as it is a vibrant community renowned for its charming downtown, local cultural events, top-rated schools, and easy commute to downtown Chicago and nearby suburbs.”

Benach noted Gateway is walkable to sought-after restaurant, entertainment and shopping venues in downtown Northbrook. Residents also will be near The Glen Town Center, a popular retail and dining destination that also boasts fitness centers, a movie theater, and recreational options including public parks, golf courses and tennis and pickleball courts. Gateway is an eight-minute walk to the Northbrook Metra station, which provides service to Chicago’s Union Station.

Adding to the appeal of Gateway are the two townhome floor plans it offers from Lexington’s refreshed Mews series: the Lotus and the Juniper. Base-priced from the mid $700,000s, the three-level townhomes measure from 1,954 to 2,278 square feet and offer three to four bedrooms, 2½ to 3½ baths, balconies and attached rear-facing garages. The Mews designs were top sellers at the builder’s nearby Metro on Main community in Morton Grove, where interested homebuyers can tour fully furnished models of both floor plans.

“Gateway buyers can walk both the Lotus and the Juniper at Metro on Main and see for themselves how our redesign maximized the use of space to offer larger closets, extra cabinet and counter space, more sizeable primary baths and a greater number of windows, which also are larger, allowing in more light,” said Benach.

One impactful change Lexington made as part of the Mews refresh was to reconfigure the staircase to open up more usable square footage, resulting in townhomes that live like a single-family home. “Because of this extra space, the kitchens are beyond anything most buyers have ever seen in a townhome, with pantries, built-in buffets and oversized islands that are the largest we’ve ever offered in our townhomes,” said Benach. “We also outfitted kitchens with luxurious finishes like quartz countertops, stylish tile backsplash and high-end Bosch® appliances. One plan even includes a tech center that is a designated nook for charging and storing devices.”

Both floor plans also feature a finished lower level with flex space that can serve as a home office, media room or fitness area. “We offer the option to add a private bedroom with an en suite bath on the lower level, and we find many buyers seek this space as an in-law, nanny or guest suite, or for adult children who need to live with them for a time,” said Benach.

All homes at Gateway include 9-foot ceilings on main and upper floors as well as hardwood flooring throughout the main level. Kitchens feature high-end, 42-inch upper cabinets (which can be upgraded to extend up to the ceiling on up to three walls), quartz countertops, pendant lighting, Kohler® fixtures, a large island with seating overhang and energy-efficient stainless steel Bosch® appliances. Baths, per plan, include 12-by-24-inch ceramic flooring, dual sinks, quartz vanity tops and private water closets. Primary suites have walk-in closets, while the lower level has a coat closet. All homes feature smart thermostats and tankless water heaters.

Buyers can add a traditional or contemporary fireplace in the main level living area and volume ceilings in any upper-level bedroom. An optional 2-foot extension can increase square footage in secondary bedrooms. A built-in buffet can be added in the Lotus kitchen, while a gourmet kitchen upgrade in the Juniper adds a built-in buffet flanked by pantries.

Gateway is near medical facilities such as Lurie Children’s Outpatient Center and Endeavor Health Glenbrook Hospital. The community will be served by Meadowbrook School Elementary School, Northbrook Junior High School and Glenbrook North High School.

Residents are in proximity to major retailers like Jewel-Osco and Home Depot, as well as a number of popular Northbrook restaurants. Numerous boutiques are nearby along Shermer Road as are major retailers and dining options in nearby Northbrook Shopping Plaza and Northbrook Court. For dog owners, the Northbrook Dog Park is less than a five-minute drive away.
