LAFAYETTE, LA – The Diocese of Lafayette and LDG Development are proud to announce the grand re-opening of Village Du Lac Family Apartments located at 1404 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, Louisiana 70501. This rehabilitated affordable housing community near F.E. “Paw” Davis City Park underwent a major renovation and breathes new life into a neighborhood that fosters a social and healthy lifestyle for those who may be elderly or disabled.
Village Du Lac’s apartments are Garden Style Fourplexes. The 140 units consist of 132 one-bedroom and 8 two-bedroom units of family rental housing, which are income restricted for Louisiana families. The apartments range in size from 588 square feet to 756 square feet and have all been reconstructed and enhanced to meet the needs of he residents.
“This project had a number of challenges, but was accomplished through hard work and perseverance guided by prayer,” said Deacon Ed Boustany, Director of the Secretariat of Catholic Charities. “Over 100 units were occupied, and we were faced with relocating all of these families before construction could begin. 38 of these folks were disabled and we were challenged to house them elsewhere without disrupting their daily schedules. We are thankful for the enormous support we received from Custom Relocation Specialists and Shreve Land Constructors who worked tirelessly to finish the job in an incredibly short time frame.”
All units have new appliances which include a washer, dryer, refrigerator and stove. Apartment homes also feature vinyl plank flooring in the kitchen and living areas plus new siding, new roofs, new plumbing and covered concrete porches. There is ample parking for residents and several units are handicap accessible.
“At the heart of Village Du Lac is the Deaf Action Center which creates an environment for our residents to participate in many programs led by the Diocese of Lafayette,” said Chris Dischinger of LDG Development, the Project Guarantor. “They can utilize video communications for the hearing impaired, kids can attend summer camp and there are daily programs like arts-and-crafts as well as knitting and painting. Village Du Lac also has a bus stop right on property for residents who use public transportation”
Funding for Village Du Lac was made possible through the Diocese of Lafayette Louisiana; Louisiana Housing Corporation; City Real Estate Advisors, Inc; LDG Multifamily; Gemini Real Estate Holdings; First NBC Bank of New Orleans and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Village Du Lac was designed by Ardoin Architecture. Paul Webb from Shreve Land Constructors led efforts to rebuild the Village in just four months, overcoming significant challenges including the effects of Hurricane Isaac. The property is surrounded by large live oak trees which add a beautiful, serene landscape to the overall look and feel.
