MEMPHIS, TN - As Tennessee continues to experience high hospitalization and death rates due to the coronavirus, two Memphis-based property management companies have teamed up to expand high quality, service-enriched affordable apartment homes for seniors across the Southeast, expanding those services in response to the isolation brought on by COVID-19.
In partnership with Wesley Living, ALCO has placed six service coordinators in five ALCO-owned communities. The on-site care managers not only provide transportation services and assist senior residents in locating available city, state and federal resources, but they also coordinate opportunities for community building as well as healthy living activities, like group exercise programs and cooking classes.
This attention to community interaction has become increasingly critical as advocates report that pandemic-isolation is continuing to threaten the mental health of adults over 65 at disproportionate rates.
“COVID-19 exacerbated the effects of social isolation on physical and mental health, particularly among older adults,” said ALCO CEO Berkeley Burbank. “As we have learned more about the nature of this virus, we have discovered safe ways to keep our communities connected — an ongoing effort that is especially important for our elderly tenants.”
Over the past seven years, Memphis-based companies ALCO Management, Inc. and Wesley Living Senior Care have lent their collective expertise to 11 Mid-South properties to ensure quality affordable housing is accessible to seniors.
ALCO currently oversees more than 6,500 apartment units across nine states, including 35 affordable communities in Tennessee. Wesley Living serves more than 2,200 residents in two assisted living communities and 28 senior housing communities in Tennessee, Kentucky and Arkansas.
