Rockefeller Group and Iconic Book Retailer Strand Books Announce Partnership at 45-Story Rose Hill Condominium Tower in New York

NEW YORK, NY – Rockefeller Group, founded in 1928 to develop Rockefeller Center and today a leading U.S. owner and developer of premier properties across various real estate asset types, is partnering with a fellow historic New York City institution – iconic book retailer Strand Books, founded in 1927 – at the developer’s first residential tower in its home town, Rose Hill. The Strand, with its signature red awning that has beckoned generations of book lovers from all over the world to the corner of Broadway and 12thStreet, will curate and stock the residents’ library, lounges and other common spaces at Rose Hill, a 45-story condominium tower currently finishing construction at 30 East 29thStreet in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood. The pandemic has reaffirmed Rockefeller Group’s commitment to supporting local businesses at this time, including at Rose Hill.

“Strand Books is one of New York’s most treasured and historical literary institutions, and we’re proud to support our partner and the independent businesses that make up our great city,” said Meg Brod, Rockefeller Group’s Senior Vice President and head of Development in the Northeast U.S. “Rose Hill has been purposefully-designed with an authentic New York attitude in mind, and we knew that the building and our partnerships needed to reflect and celebrate the neighborhood’s urban fabric. It brings us immense joy to collaborate with such a notable and distinguished retailer while simultaneously providing an amazing compilation of books for our residents to enjoy.”

Known for an expansive collection of new, used and rare books, spanning many genres and topics from philosophy to finance, as well as a wide array of literary gifts, Strand Books’ items will fill the shelves of Rose Hill with hundreds of titles. These spaces include a private library on the lobby level, surrounded by the hotel-like lounge dubbed “The Blue Room,” which offers multiple seating areas and tables for co-working and adjacent access to a beautifully-landscaped garden courtyard that directly connects for fresh air and natural light, in addition to a secondary library set within the 37th floor private residents club. The sky-grazing space, accompanied by magnificent city views, features rich woods and a host of seating options for relaxation, and is adjacent to an indoor private dining room, outdoor BBQ area with seating and breathtaking views, multiple common areas and a game room.

“The Strand is honored to be a featured partner for Rose Hill and we are delighted that our custom libraries, curated by The Strand’s Books by the Foot team, will help breathe literary life into this incredible and one-of-a-kind project,” saidJames Odum, Communications Director at Strand Book Store. “Rockefeller Group has shown remarkable generosity in supporting local businesses like us, especially during this challenging time, and we are excited to be collaborating with such a prominent and legendary developer, who was founded in New York around the same time we were nearly a century ago."

Earlier this year, Rose Hill also offered support to other neighborhood retailers and first responders. Partnering with NoMad’s popular Bourke Street Bakery, the team quickly repurposed funds that would typically be allotted to "regular" broker open houses and gave back to additional area businesses. Through utilizing and redirecting the event budgets, the bakery created 60 care packages dedicated to the heroes at nearby Bellevue Hospital.

Rockefeller Group has also partnered with several other premiere New York-based businessesat Rose Hill. The comprehensive health and wellness cluboffers a fully equipped fitness center curated by New York City’s leading HIIT and Strength brand  FHITTING ROOM, as well as a professional grade squash court programmed by SquashRX. Rose Hill will also feature a dramatic bike room with an in-house bike repair workshop for resident use programmed by Strictly Cycling Collective, one of the city’s best cycling shops.

Rose Hill will soon open to residents and unveil its collection of new fully furnished model residences to interested buyers.Located between Park & Madison Avenues, the 45-story full service condominium soars over 600 feet and offers cinematic views of New York City and the Manhattan skyline. Featuring 123 sophisticated homes and a full suite of amenities that have been created for today's modern New Yorker, Rose Hill has been designed inside and out by acclaimed global architecture firm, CetraRuddy. About Strand Book Store: Strand Book Store was born in 1927 on Fourth Avenue on what was then called “Book Row,” an area that covered six city blocks and housed forty-eight bookstores. Ben Bass was all of twenty-five years old when he began his modest used bookstore. Ben sought to create a place where books would be loved, and book lovers could congregate. He named Strand Book Store after the London street where avant-garde writers like Thackeray, Dickens and Mill once gathered and interesting book publishers thrived. 93 years and 18 miles of books later, The Strand is still run by the Bass family and is home to four floors of over 2.5 million used, new, and rare books, a wide array of bookish gifts and goods, and virtual literary events held almost every night of the week. The store has two locations: the long-standing flagship located at 828 Broadway at 12th St and The Strand at Columbus Ave. located at 450 Columbus Ave. in New York’s Upper West Side.
