SIOUX FALLS, SD - Renter Nation®, the country’s only website by, for and about America’s more than 100 million residential renters, is pleased to announce that in an effort to increase the voter participation of residential renters and young “millennials,” they have integrated the voter registration portal “Rock The Vote” on its www.renternation.com website.
In announcing the alliance, Bill Deegan, Renter Nation’s CEO, said that “residential renters have historically had lower voter participation than homeowners in most areas of the country. Our intent is to boost the involvement of renters in the on-going housing policy dialog by giving renters everywhere, and by extension the multifamily housing industry, a greater voice at the nation’s policy making tables.”
Citing figures prepared by the National Multi Housing Council, an industry trade group, Mr. Deegan added that “there’s a reason that multifamily housing and renters receive only 21% of federal housing dollars even though we represent close to 38% of the population. That reason is: we don’t have sufficient clout at the ballot box. By encouraging renters and landlords to register to vote, and by providing an easy means to do so through Renter Nation’s Rock The Vote link, we are doing our part to amplify the collective voice of renters and the multifamily industry.”
Steve Crawford, Renter Nation’s COO, said that Rock The Vote should be commended for its website affiliation program. “Rock The Vote has added millions of new voters to the country’s registration rolls. We’re glad to be in a position, through Renter Nation, to register what we expect to be at least a million more voters this year.”
