INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) is encouraging landlords and property managers across Indiana to list any available units on the Indiana Affordable Housing Information System, www.IndianaHousingNow.org, to help assist residents displaced by the recent storms find housing. A free service for both renters and landlords, the Web site was created several years ago as another tool to help provide safe secure affordable housing for low and moderate income individuals and households.
"We want to help everyone displaced by the storms gain access to affordable housing in a timely manner," said Sherry Seiwert, Executive Director of IHCDA. "By encouraging more properties to list their available units, we will have more options available for those needing a temporary place to rent."
IHCDA created and maintains the user-friendly Web site that allows individuals to search for affordable housing, and also gives property owners a venue to showcase their available properties. The site, www.IndianaHousingNow.org, lists both units for rent and those for sale, and also provides information such as schools, amenities, lease lengths, down-payment requirements, and income restrictions. The toll- free help line number for the Web site 1-877-428-8844.
Property managers, owners, and landlords are strongly encouraged to place listings for all available units on their properties, especially in those areas that have been hardest hit.
"We are currently experiencing a low inventory of listings in many of the areas that suffered the heaviest damage, partly because many of the rental properties available in those areas also suffered damage," said Seiwert. "We are calling on all landlords to please help by listing their available units now on IndianaHousingNow.org. It is not only a free service, but a necessary service at this time."
