The Amsterdam at Harborside has reached a major milestone that will launch construction on the $282 million community designed to offer a distinctive lifestyle option for Long Island's vibrant older adults.
The Amsterdam at Harborside has received deposits for 70 percent of its upscale apartments and elegant penthouses, surpassing the reservation criteria set by the state of New York on regulated continuing care retirement communities. With the accomplishment of this benchmark, The Amsterdam at Harborside will now finalize financing and officially kick off construction with a groundbreaking ceremony on October 30, 2007.
The Amsterdam at Harborside will be Nassau County's first and only true life care community, offering seniors distinguished living built for their vibrant and engaged lifestyles. The stylish community will be built on nine acres along West Shore Road in Port Washington, adjacent to the grounds of the Harbor Links Golf Course.
"The number of depositors we have at The Amsterdam signifies the growing demand on Long Island for elegant, maintenance-free living in a community setting that appeals to today's dynamic older adults," said James Davis, president and CEO of The Amsterdam House Continuing Care Retirement Community, Inc. "The Amsterdam has attracted adults who want to maintain their active lifestyles, while having the security of knowing they have priority access to quality health care, if ever needed."
The Amsterdam at Harborside will feature 226 independent living apartment homes, featuring maintenance-free living surrounded by resort-style amenities. As a life care community, The Amsterdam also will offer 106 private suites for assisted living and skilled nursing.
The Amsterdam at Harborside will be just the ninth life care community in the state of New York. Life care provides residents with guaranteed lifetime access to future long-term health care at a predictable monthly fee, including on-site assisted living and skilled nursing, if ever needed. Health care for residents of The Amsterdam will be provided through an affiliation with the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System.
"What life care does is provide peace of mind for the quality of future healthcare and financial security," said Davis. "Instead of worrying about future health care costs, residents of The Amsterdam can focus their attention on an active lifestyle that will help them stay vibrant and healthy."
"My husband and I were among the first to commit to The Amsterdam at Harborside two years ago, and we are thrilled to celebrate this milestone," said Renee Yarmoff, a future resident from Plainview, NY. "I'm very active with my volunteer work, my temple and traveling into New York City. I have no intention of slowing down, and I look forward to living at The Amsterdam with other people who share my love of life."
The Amsterdam boasts a number of amenities and services to enhance a rewarding, maintenance-free lifestyle. The community will offer restaurant-quality dining, concierge service, a state-of-the-art fitness center, an indoor swimming pool, wellness programs, social and cultural events, numerous common and activity spaces, valet parking and scheduled transportation.
"I am so glad that The Amsterdam will soon be available for those in the area looking for this kind of lifestyle," said Kate Bergen, a resident of Port Washington for many years and a Community Advisory Board member of The Amsterdam at Harborside. Bergen is one of the founders of Landmark on Main Street and a former president of the Port Washington Community Chest. "'I've reviewed the plans for The Amsterdam, and the design details coupled with the excellent services offer adults a way life that is definitely desired in Nassau County."
