TALLAHASSEE, FL - Five projects in South Florida were among 13 awarded grants by the organization that oversees the state's affordable housing programs. Florida Housing Finance Corp. announced the final rankings for $59 million in awards under the Community Workforce Housing Innovation Program (CWHIP) on Friday. Of that, $23.2 million would go to developments in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties that plan to build affordable housing. Those projects are:
Hammon Park, a 117-unit town home project in Lake Worth by New Urban Communities that would receive $5 million.
Lowenstein Building Workforce Housing Rental Rehabilitation, a Miami Beach-based project by Mount Sinai Medical Center that would receive $5 million to create 76 rental units.
Miramar Town Center, which would receive $5 million to build 70 affordable units as part of the city-sponsored mixed-use project.
Village Center Homes, a 32-unit project in Miami by the Carlisle Group that would receive $3.6 million.
Solabella, a 50-unit project in Miami by Legacy Pointe/Cornerstone Group that would receive $4.6 million.
There were 48 applications for funding under the CWHIP program for the 2007 budget year, which covered the recently announced awards. The applicants who came up short have until May 27 to file an appeal of their score and ranking. The Florida Legislature did not fund the CWHIP program in its 2008 budget.
