Balfour Beatty Selected to Develop West Campus Housing Project at Texas A&M University

DALLAS, TX - Balfour Beatty, an infrastructure group operating in construction services, professional services, support services and infrastructure investments, announced it has been selected to develop a new student housing project at Texas A&M University’s main campus in College Station, Texas. Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, a developer and operator of infrastructure projects for the college and university market, is the lead developer on the privately financed project, which is expected to cost in excess of $200 million. Balfour Beatty Construction, based in Dallas, is the construction partner on the project.

According to John Sharp, Chancellor of The Texas A&M University System, "West Campus is an integral part of the future for Texas A&M and it is vital that we have services available to meet the needs of the students, faculty and staff. This project is our first step in creating a new environment for our students and doing it in accordance with our new policy, without new debt or new cash outlays."

The proposed development will incorporate approximately 4000 beds featuring both apartment and traditional residence hall designs. Also included in the plan is a community support building that will house dining services and other amenities for the University’s west campus population.

Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, with regional offices in Dallas and Houston, will work with Texas A&M University to finalize contract details and reach financial close over the coming months. Upon final approval, the project will be developed through a Public-Private Partnership on a long-term ground lease that will be managed by Texas A&M University Housing and Residence Life.

Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions recently broke ground on another student housing project in The Texas A&M University System—a 514-bed facility at Tarleton State University’s Stephenville, Texas campus that is set to open in August of 2014.

“We are delighted to expand our relationship with The Texas A&M University System,” said Jim Short, Senior Vice President of Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions. “We have assembled a first-rate team for this important project and look forward to working with our partners and the University to deliver an exceptional living environment for the students at Texas A&M.”
