Florida Trend Names 2007 Legal Elite

New Story
Tallahassee, FL - Wellington Meffert II, General Counsel at Florida Housing Finance Corporation, was named to Florida Trend Magazine’s Legal Elite for 2007. In addition, this is the first year Florida Trend included a government attorney category, and Meffert was one of only 50 government attorneys honored in that category. Florida Trend chooses its Elite from a pool of over 59,000 Florida Bar members. Only lawyers who are currently licensed and practicing in Florida are eligible. Candidates are chosen based on merit, and voting attorneys are asked to submit names of lawyers “whom they hold in the highest regard – lawyers, with whom they have worked or would recommend to others.” Voting members included the top contacts at law firms, local bar associations and Florida members of the Association of Corporate Counsel. Finalists were selected based on the number of votes received.

Meffert was named Florida Housing’s General Counsel in May 2002. Prior to his current position, he worked as Counsel at Akerman, Senterfitt and Eidson in general practice which included civil and administrative litigation, professional licensing, as well as executive branch and legislative lobbying. A one-time actor, Meffert has enjoyed various professions in his career including work in the construction trades and teaching.

Meffert graduated from Florida State University in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in English Education and a Graduate degree in Theatre in 1971. He received his law degree, with honors, from Florida State in 1988 and was subsequently admitted to the Florida Bar that year.
