Rainmaker Principal Appointed to Make-A-Wish Board

ATLANTA, GA - The Rainmaker Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Tammy Farley to the Board of Directors of Make-A-Wish® Georgia and Alabama.   Her appointment is effective immediately and will run through 2014, with options to renew through 2018.  Farley is principal of the Rainmaker Group, the market-leading revenue management and profit optimization solutions provider for the Gaming & Hospitality and Multifamily Housing industries.

“Everybody knows the Make-A-Wish name, but I don’t believe many people stop to think about how many wishes there are and what it takes to make those wishes come true,” said Farley, whose company and employees began embracing the organization’s mission in 2011.   Through the Make-A-Wish
‘Adopt-a-Wish’ program, The Rainmaker Group recently adopted a four-year-old boy battling Fallot’s Tetralogy, a congenital heart defect that alters the normal flow of blood through the heart.

“An average ‘wish’ carries a price tag of $8,000,” said Farley.  “For a litany of reasons, but largely driven by the economy, the number of wishes, in recent years, has gone up at the same time that the amount of philanthropic funding has gone down. This year, as an example, the goal of the Georgia and Alabama chapter is to grant 375 wishes, but there’s already a backlog of 800.”

This Saturday is the 9th Annual Walk For Wishes and 2012 Run For Wishes 5K to raise money for
the Georgia and Alabama Chapter of Make-A-Wish.  Registration for the Walk begins at 8:30 a.m.
The Walk starts at 10:00 a.m.  Registration for the 5K Run begins at 7 a.m., with the race set for 8 a.m.  Both events are in Atlanta, beginning and ending in Central Park at Atlantic Station.

This Sunday is World Wish Day®, a global celebration of wish granting.  April 29, 2012 marks the 32nd anniversary of the wish that inspired the creation of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Visit http://ga-al.wish.org/about-us/history/ for the poignant details and historical significance of this date in 1980.

The Make-A-Wish® magic began with one boy’s wish to be a police officer in 1980. Currently more than 280,000 wishes have been granted to children with life-threatening medical conditions in the United States and its territories.  Founded in 1995, the Georgia and Alabama Chapter is responsible for
granting wishes within both states by raising funds to fulfill those wishes and organizing wish experiences. Presently, there are 64 Make-A-Wish® chapters serving the United States as well as
Guam and Puerto Rico.

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.  With the help of generous donors and over 30,000 volunteers worldwide, Make-A-Wish grants a wish somewhere in the world every 23 minutes and has granted over 280,000 wishes since its inception in 1980.  The Georgia and Alabama Chapter of Make-A-Wish has granted over 5,000 wishes locally
and has over 800 children waiting for their most heartfelt wishes to come true.
