Consumers Energy Partners With Michigan Habitat

JACKSON, MI - Consumers Energy and Habitat for Humanity of Michigan are teaming up to improve the energy efficiency and affordability of homes in Michigan. Throughout the Detroit Tigers season, Consumers Energy has pledged to make a dollar-for-dollar matching donation up to a maximum total donation of $100,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Michigan through its fundraising website at www.homerunforhabitat.org.

Habitat for Humanity will use the money to provide affordable and energy efficient housing solutions in more than 70 Michigan counties while partnering with families, corporations and community leaders. "Homerun for Habitat" is part of Habitat's "ReBuild Michigan" statewide capital campaign.

"We salute Habitat for Humanity for bringing hope to families," said Ted Ykimoff, residential energy efficiency operations director at Consumers Energy. "We are aware of the financial challenges Habitat for Humanity faces on a daily basis in helping people become homeowners. It's our hope that our matching donation will go a long way toward building more energy efficient homes and making dreams come true."

"We are delighted to have the support of such a generous corporate sponsor while bringing public awareness to the fact that energy efficient houses equal affordable houses," said Sandy Pearson, president for Habitat for Humanity of Michigan.

"This effort not only shows their corporate commitment to helping families afford their homes, but demonstrates their desire to inspire others to support Habitat's work."

Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy, provides natural gas and electricity to 6.8 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
