Al Gore Strives To Go Green At Home

New Story
The nonprofit U.S. Green Building Council praised the newly renovated home of former U.S. Vice President Al Gore for its environmental friendliness. Gore, a vocal environmentalist who was previously criticized when it was revealed that his home ran on an average of 16,000 kilowatt hours a month, has completed renovations on his Nashville home that cut summer electrical consumption by 11 percent and decreased natural gas use by 93 percent, All Headline News reported Friday.

One of the things that is tremendously powerful about what the Gores have done is demonstrate that you can take a home that was a dog, an absolute energy pig, and do things to correct that, said Kim Shinn of the U.S. Green Building Council, which labeled the home one of the most environmentally friendly in the country.

The renovations included adding solar panels, replacing incandescent light fixtures with compact fluorescent or diode bulbs, building a rainwater-collection system and installing a geothermal heating system.
