SAN DIEGO, CA - Affirmed Housing Group celebrated the grand opening of Riverwalk Apartments. Located at 1194 Hollister Street, the ceremony featured several special speakers including: San Diego City Councilmember for District 8, David Alvarez; Vice President of Development for the San Diego Housing Commission, Debbie Ruane; and President of Affirmed Housing Group, James Silverwood. More than an affordable housing development, Riverwalk will also provide environmental renewal in a vulnerable area.
Located in South San Diego, Riverwalk Apartments consists of 50 units, including 19 one-bedroom, 10 two-bedroom, and 21 three-bedroom homes in five buildings on opposite banks of Nestor Creek. Community amenities at Riverwalk include a tot lot and barbeque areas, onsite laundry, a community room, and computer lab. Developed by Affirmed Housing Group in partnership with the San Diego Housing Commission, Riverwalk Apartments was designed by Studio E Architects with landscape architect Darsono Design, and built by Allgire General Contractors.
Riverwalk is also environmentally-friendly and will provide restoration of Nestor Creek. Formerly a trash-filled eyesore, the creek was cleaned out, re-vegetated with native species, and repurposed as a part of a community open space/walking trail. Other green elements include:
