Campus Apartments Expands
PHILADELPHIA, PA - Campus Apartments, the oldest and one of the largest privately held student housing companies in the nation, has expanded its student housing management portfolio to include Notre Dame Apartments and the apartment homes, known as Campus Housing at South Bend. The assets, located in South Bend, Ind., will accommodate the increasing enrollment numbers of the University of Notre Dame. The ownership group, Gross & Cohen Real Estate Investors Ltd., based in Woburn, Mass., selected Campus Apartments to manage these properties based on its unparalleled 50 years of operational experience in student housing management. This management contract adds 466 beds to the company's booming management portfolio; earlier this year Campus Apartments assumed the management of over 5,800 beds from six different owners.

Michael Cohen, President at Gross & Cohen Real Estate Investors Ltd., said, "Our firm owns several student housing properties throughout the country, and we have found that Campus Apartments has an advantage over traditional third-party management firms—it brings an owner's mentality to the engagement and a unique ability to enhance the property's value. That ability combined with their experience, staffing, reporting and operational focus on student housing assets made them a match for my performance expectations."

Enrollment at the University of Notre Dame continues to steadily increase year-over-year. Paula Platt, Campus Apartments Director of Client Services, said, "With such strong demand for student housing in South Bend, it was important to both the property owner and Campus Apartments that we do more than just provide standard apartments; rather we saw this as an opportunity to solidify our commitment to this college community as the premier provider of affordable, quality housing."

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the demand for student housing is expected to last for another decade as the nation's college enrollment grows by 10 percent. "Now more than ever, students are seeking college housing that will provide more than just a great locale, but also provide an exceptional experience," said Miles Orth, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Campus Apartments. "By combining our 50 years of student housing management experience with Gross & Cohen's quality properties, we are able to offer students across South Bend an affordable housing option that will deliver the superior living environment that today's students seek."

Campus Apartments, LLC, the oldest and one of the largest privately held student housing companies in the nation, is a leader in the development and management of university affiliated housing. The company has more than $1 billion worth of assets under management with more than 26,000 beds in 24 states.
