Riverfront Condos Planned In Scenic Asheville

New Story
ASHEVILLE, NC – For the first time ever, development along the French Broad River in the Asheville area is becoming a reality. Developers are planning construction of The River Condominiums to begin in the late summer, with completion about 16 months after the groundbreaking. “Waterfront property has always been in high demand,” said project developer Tony Cecil with Urban Spaces, located in Asheville. “Plus, we are just minutes from downtown, but without the downtown prices.”

The 104-unit condominium building will be located just north of downtown in Woodfin, near the U.S. 19-23-70/Broadway interchange. The River will encompass 2.2 acres currently occupied by an empty warehouse. Plans call for units ranging from 768 to more than 1,600 square feet and priced from $189,000 to a little more than $600,000. Cecil says residents will pay on the average about $50-100 less per square foot than the more expensive condos seen downtown just a couple miles away. The selling points are: exclusive riverfront living, affordable pricing, close proximity to the UNC-Asheville campus and the convenience of being just minutes from downtown.

The River Condos will also incorporate many “green” features including: hardwood or bamboo floors, a partial green roof, a cistern to catch and reuse rainwater, automatic recycling system and an atrium in the center of the building to bring in natural light. The developers have also committed to using Energy Star rated products wherever possible. The building will also feature two rooftop observation decks with a connecting boardwalk, private gym and outdoor equipment storage system.

The proximity to the French Broad River also creates an atmosphere for active and environmentally-conscious residents. The condos will be located on the north end of the RiverLink development, a growing riverside greenway and revitalization effort along 17 miles of the French Broad. Developers are designing a first of its kind riverfront park as part of the home package that will feature a kayak/canoe launch, multiple birdhouses, overlook, gazebo, reflecting benches, and meandering paths along the river.

Initial news of this development has been well-received with inquiries from all over the Southeast. “We are getting calls and deposits from several states including the Carolinas, Georgia and South Florida,” said Cecil. “To be a pioneer for riverfront living in Asheville for the first time ever is exciting.”

The River Condos is also a member of the environmentally-conscious Adopt-a-Stream program. Adopt-a-Stream is a hands-on way for local residents and businesses to get actively involved in improving the water quality of the French Broad River Watershed. They have also partnered with River Link, the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, Southern Appalachian Biodiversity Project and Appalachian Voices to ensure that life along the French Broad River is truly a quality of life – something more and more people are coming to Asheville to experience.
