Verizon Delivers Fiber-Optic to JPI

Verizon Delivers Fiber-Optic to JPI
WASHINGTON, DC - Residents at two new apartment buildings in this city's revitalized Capitol Riverfront neighborhood now have access to Verizon's FiOS Internet, the most advanced broadband service available. The service also will be available this spring in a third building currently under construction in the same neighborhood.

The three buildings, owned by JPI, a multifamily real estate investment company with headquarters in Irving, Texas, contain a total of 931 apartments. In addition, under an agreement announced Wednesday (March 4), Verizon is deploying FiOS services in JPI's new and existing developments in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Texas and California.

JPI's buildings in Washington - and other single- and multifamily residences throughout the District - will also ultimately have access to Verizon's award-winning FiOS TV as the company rolls out the service over the next few years under a recently approved franchise agreement.

"We have a long-standing relationship with JPI and already have brought our FiOS services to dozens of their communities across the country," said Eric Cevis, vice president of Verizon Enhanced Communities, which markets and sells communications and entertainment services to single- and multiple-home communities, and small and medium commercial sites. "We're excited to bring FiOS services to several more JPI communities here in the nation's capital."

The two JPI buildings that now have access to FiOS Internet are the Jefferson at Capitol Yards, at 70 I St., S.E.; and the Axiom at Capitol Yards, at 100 I St., S.E. The buildings contain a total of 694 apartments. Verizon is currently installing fiber-optic cable in the third building, 909 Capitol Yards, which is located at 909 New Jersey Ave., S.E. and will have 237 apartments.

The Capitol Riverfront neighborhood in which the three buildings are located is in Southeast Washington near Nationals Park, the new stadium of Washington's Major League baseball team, and between the Capitol and the Anacostia River. Formerly an area containing vacant lots and auto repair shops, the neighborhood is now full of new apartment buildings, offices, stores and restaurants.

Michael Stevens, executive director of the Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District, said: "The Capitol Riverfront is D.C.'s newest waterfront destination for parks, entertainment, business and the best of urban lifestyles. In the past three years this area has been transformed into a desirable destination for sustainable urban living anchored by new parks and access to the river. JPI's partnership with Verizon illustrates the visionary ideals of the neighborhood that make it such an excellent location for living, business activities, recreation and entertainment."

Henry Pye, vice president of resident technology solutions for RealPage, which coordinated the FiOS deployments with JPI, said: "JPI's communities consistently strive to provide a comprehensive package of the best possible services and technologies for its residents. Verizon's revolutionary FiOS service certainly fulfills that objective."

Since the end of 2005, Verizon Enhanced Communities has aggressively pursued agreements with multifamily owners to bring FiOS to their communities. To date, Verizon FiOS is available to residents in more than 1 million apartments across 16 states and the District of Columbia.
