MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The Minneapolis Grain Exchange's real estate arm has launched a website to help market space in the historic three-building complex, including the former trading floor.
Besides providing information about leasing and amenities, the website - www. mgex.com/realestate - offers architectural and historical details on the buildings at the corner of 4th Street and 4th Avenue S. near City Hall. The buildings, which opened in 1902, 1909 and 1928, are on the National Register of Historic Places and designated for preservation by the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission. The main building was one of the first steel-interior structures built in Minneapolis.
The 325,500-square-foot complex's vacancy rate is about 17 percent and will tick up slightly when the last tenants of the trading pit move out at the end of this month. The exchange closed the trading pit on the main building's fourth floor in December, completing a move to a fully electronic trading system. Rita Maloney, director of marketing, said the Grain Exchange already has gotten inquiries from some potential tenants of the 16,000-square-foot trading floor.
In addition to commodities industry businesses, current occupants include some Hennepin County offices and several law firms. The buildings are connected by tunnel to City Hall, the Hennepin County Government Center and the U.S. District Courthouse.
