SAN ANTONIO, TX - The San Antonio Housing Authority will receive a national award on Tuesday by Multifamily Executive magazine. The local housing authority is being honored for its San Juan Square development. San Juan Square is a mixed income residential development on San Antonio's West Side that features a combination of market-rate, affordable and public housing units alongside each other. Residents also have access to a clubhouse with a community room, a swimming pool, a fitness center and a business center.
SAHA officials will accept the project of the year award in the mixed-income category as Multifamily Executive's annual conference in Las Vegas. Multifamily Executive is a national business magazine serving more than 25,000 owners, operators and developers of multifamily housing.
"The 'face' of public housing in San Antonio has greatly changed over the last few years," says SAHA Board Chairman Ramiro Cavazos.
"When we build new developments and renovate existing ones, we're continuing to provide affordable housing but we're also enhancing our residents' living conditions by providing amenities such as clubhouses, pools and fitness centers," Cavazos says.
SAHA owns and manages 6,400 public housing units and 3,200 affordable housing units. SAHA has a $130 million annual operating budget and more than $300 million in assets. The agency also administers nearly 12,000 Section 8 vouchers.
