City Receives $5M Affordable Housing Grant
SAN DIEGO, CA - Public and nonprofit agencies throughout San Diego County received more than $5.4 million in state grant awards in the last two months to finance 151 units of affordable housing, the state Department of Housing and Community Development announced Oct. 9. A total of $106.2 million statewide was dispersed between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30 from voter approved bond programs Propositions 46 and 1C.

San Diego Habitat for Humanity received $1.5 million to build 36 units of affordable housing, and San Diego Neighborhood Housing services received $1.5 million towards 46 units of affordable housing. In the county, the Escondido-based Hidden Valley House Center for Community Solutions received $654,776 towards 30 units; the city of Oceanside received $900,000 towards 15 units; and the city of Vista received $900,000 towards 24 units.

Proposition 1C is the $2.85 billion housing bond passed by the voters in November 2006. Proposition 46 is the previous $2.1 billion housing bond approved by voters in November 2002.

"This funding is critical for creating and maintaining affordable housing options up and down the state," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said in a press release.

Awards were made through various programs: CalHome; Multifamily Housing Program; Joe Serna Jr.; Farmworker Housing Grant Program; Emergency Housing and Assistance Program; Capital Development; and Mobilehome Park Resident Ownership Program.
