STOCKTON, CA - The newest affordable housing project of Visionary Home Builders of California, a Stockton based nonprofit housing developer, will feature solar roof panels built into the 45-unit Stockton apartment project to cut families' power bills. The goal is to have each family pay no more than $30 a month for its electrical bill, CEO Carol J. Ornelas said. "The rising costs of fuel and food prices as well as our difficult economy have made it necessary for those in difficult times to save as much money as possible," she said. "We hope that we can allow these families to save their money or put it to good use."
Villa Monterey, at 4707 Kentfield Road, will have a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments. Construction is scheduled to be completed by late November, and families will begin moving in this December.
The complex will include a community room for tenant meetings and community events. The units also will include energy-efficient appliances and eco-friendly features not found in many affordable-housing facilities. Grupe Homes is the general contractor.
The Community Partnership for Families will provide various social services, after-school programs and a computer lab for the residents of Villa Monterey and the surrounding neighborhood. The partnership is a collaboration of neighborhood groups, faith-based organizations, schools, businesses, and public and private health agencies that establish family resource centers in high-need areas throughout Stockton.
Visionary Home Builders has developed more than $150 million worth of rentals - 350 single-family units and 1,000 multifamily units. The group manages and operates the properties it develops and requires tenants to adhere to strict guidelines and property-upkeep requirements. Visionary Home Builders also has counseled more than 2,000 families through credit counseling, budget counseling and home buyer education classes.
