Campus Advantage Joins Forces With OurTime.org

AUSTIN, TX - As the nation marks National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday (Sept. 25), Campus Advantage is partnering with Our Time as a way of encouraging college students to register to vote and to educate themselves about issues that are important to them.

Austin-based Campus Advantage, a leading student housing company, has been sharing information with residents at its properties on how to register to vote and what their rights are when voting away from their home states. The company manages 48 student housing communities spread across 20 states.

“There is a significant amount of confusion and lack of clear information when it comes to voting among college students and other fairly mobile individuals,” said Dan Oltersdorf, vice president of residence life. “We want to help them avoid these issues. We decided to partner with OurTime.org because it is an organization that is passionate about empowering young people.”

Many current issues are having a direct impact on the lives of young Americans, he said. At least 1 in 6 is unemployed while almost 1 in 3 lack health insurance. Even those young voters attending college are not immune. Many students graduate from college owing on average more than $24,000 in student loans. Yet, the nation’s youngest voters have a history of not showing up at the polls.

CA property staff will use National Voter Registration Day as an opportunity to help ensure residents are registered to vote. Staff members also will be sharing resources with residents so that they can learn for themselves about issues that are important to them and where they stand on those issues.

Oltersdorf said CA’s partnership with Our Time aligns perfectly with the company’s vision of seeing a world in which more people are living successful and enriched lives. Our Time is a non-partisan organization whose primary purpose is to educate young voters about issues that are impacting their generation.
