Western States Lodging Breaks Ground on 268-Unit High-Rise Senior Living Community

TAYLORSVILLE, UT - Western States Lodging, along with general contractor Big-D Construction, recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its newest project, Legacy Village of Sugar House. Legacy Village, a 268-unit senior living complex and Phase 2 of the Sugar House Mixed-Use Development project, will neighbor newly opened Wilmington Flats, a 105-unit urban apartment complex that also includes luxury town homes, 70,000 square feet of office space and 30,000 square feet of retail space.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held in conjunction with grand-opening and ribbon-cutting events for Wilmington Flats, located at 1215 East Wilmington Avenue in Salt Lake City, on Friday, May 8th, at 11:30 a.m. Stan Penfold, Salt Lake City Councilman, and Lynn Olson, longtime Sugar House resident and community advocate, were honored guests and spoke at the event. Olson talked of growing up in the Sugar House neighborhood and how these new projects mirror the past and will allow both seniors, families and young professionals to shop, dine and work in close proximity to home. Wendy Fisher, Executive Director of Utah Open Lands, and Jeffrey Woodbury, VP of Woodbury Corporation, were also in attendance.

Legacy Village of Sugar House will include prime retail space and a parking structure, with additional levels dedicated to senior housing and services. Conveniently located near University of Utah Hospital, medical and dental offices, Sugar House Park, and shops and restaurants, Legacy Village of Sugar House will set a high standard for the design and planning of senior housing in Salt Lake City and other metropolitan areas.

Legacy Village will serve three distinct senior living market segments—Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care. The community will provide extensive services to each of its residents. Residents will enjoy daily activities, restaurant-style dining, beautifully decorated living areas and a variety of apartment floor plans—all in a home-like setting. For those who need additional help, specially-trained caregivers will provide assistance with medications and other activities of daily living.

Development partners include Woodbury Corporation, Dee’s Inc., and the Colmena Group. Development Manager Aabir Malik said, “We are excited about both Legacy Village of Sugar House and Wilmington Flats. Both of these projects contribute to the diverse housing options that are available in the area. Sugar House is such a vibrant neighborhood.”
