City Creates New Affordable Housing Committee
By: MultifamilyBiz Staff - 5/13/2008 7:52:05 AM
DELRAY BEACH, FL - On the heels of the success created by the city's Green Task Force, the City Commission is soliciting residents to participate in an Affordable Housing Advisory Committee that will meet at twice a year. Recently, the Green Task Force helped to decide the future of recycling in the city for future decades. That decision will be the backbone of a decision by the city commission next month about single stream vs. dual stream recycling.

"I have been pleased with the effort, dedication and involvement so far of our Green Task Force," said City Commissioner Fred Fetzer. "I think they are focused on what the Commission asked them to do."

Residents can see a summary of the work of the task force at www.sustainabledelray.org, from meetings twice a month for the past six months.

The focus of the new Affordable Housing Advisory Committee is to advise on financial or in-kind incentives for affordable housing.

"I am not sure there is a need at this point to form an Affordable Housing Advisory Committee. We have the Community Land Trust working closely with the city's Community Improvement Department and the CRA on these issues," Fetzer said. "I believe creating another Affordable Housing Advisory Committee might create too much of an overlap with the agencies already working on these issues."
