Wind Power

Inexhaustible Energy
Wind can play a major role in the solution to global warming. It’s also a domestic, inexhaustible energy source that produces no emissions, requires no fuel, and consumes no natural resources.
The wind energy industry works to make sure that it is environmentally responsible. It funds research on wind farms and wildlife and conducts workshops and panels to make sure wind companies are aware of the latest findings and recommendations
Reliable Resource
Not only is wind 100 percent clean, it is a cost-effective, inexhaustible and readily available energy source. The many benefits of wind make it clear that one of the world’s fastest-growing energy sources can produce a substantial share of our electricity.
Did You Know?
Wind is a reliable, efficient source of energy that has huge environmental and economic benefits. Wind energy provides price stability, generates revenue for farmers and rural communities, and creates tens of thousands of jobs.
What Is Wind Energy?
Hot air rises, reducing the atmospheric pressure at the earth's surface, and cooler air is drawn in to replace it. The result is wind. Air has mass, and when it is in motion, it contains the energy of that motion "kinetic energy." Some portion of that energy can converted into other forms - mechanical force or electricity.
How Is Wind Power Utilized?
Today, wind energy is mainly used to generate electricity. Wind is called a renewable energy source because the wind will blow as long as the sun shines. Wind is simple air in motion. It is caused by the uneven heating of the earth’s surface by the sun.
How Does It Work?
A wind energy system transforms the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical or electrical energy that can be harnessed for practical use. Mechanical energy is most commonly used for pumping water in rural or remote locations — the "farm windmill" still seen in many rural areas of the U.S. is a mechanical wind pumper- but it can also be used for many other purposes (grinding grain, sawing, pushing a sailboat, etc.). Modern Wind turbines generate electricity for homes and businesses and for sale to utilities.
