Woodlawn, A Choice Neighborhood Earns 2018 Chicago Community Trust Outstanding Community Plan Award

CHICAGO, IL - Woodlawn, A Choice Neighborhood developed by Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), received the 2018 Chicago Community Trust Outstanding Community Plan Award on April 5. Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Chicago presented the 24th Annual Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards (CNDA) in front of more than 1,500 attendees. The awards recognize and honor the top community development, real estate development and architectural design projects in the city’s neighborhoods.

Chicago construction company, Joseph J. Duffy Co., recently completed the Trianon Lofts for POAH, a housing and retail project that is a key component in the neighborhood’s revival. Trianon Lofts is the first predominantly market rate rental housing built in Woodlawn in more than 50 years.

“This project is the most recent addition to the redevelopment of the former Grove Parc apartments in Woodlawn,” said Joseph Beuttas, vice president, business development for Joseph J. Duffy Co. “We are pleased to play an important role in the neighborhood’s revitalization and congratulate Preservation of Affordable Housing on this prestigious recognition.”

According to the award program book, the “collaborative community development partnerships and investments (in Woodlawn) are having a dramatic impact on economic vitality and quality of life. The population has increased 15% – the first increase in decades – new jobs are being created, and the numbers of vacant properties and violent crimes have plummeted.”
