TCA Architects' Design for 888 San Mateo Wins NAHB Green Multifamily Project of the Year Award

SAN MATEO, CA - TCA Architects continues to be recognized as a leader in sustainable design as 888 San Mateo was recently honored by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in their 2016 Best In Green (BIG) awards program. The sustainable community was named Green Multifamily Project of the Year, announced Thom Cox, AIA, LEED AP, CEO and Managing Partner of TCA Architects. 888 San Mateo previously was awarded the 2015 NAHB Pillars Award of Merit for Best Example of Green Building Concepts, 2014 LEED for Home Awards’ Outstanding Multifamily Project of the Year and the United States Green Building Council’s 2014 Multifamily Project of the Year.

The NAHB is a federation of industry professionals dedicated to helping its members build communities while ensuring that they have the tools and resources necessary to succeed. The organization provides educational opportunities, such as the International Builder’s Show, the world’s largest show of its kind for the residential and commercial construction industry. Winners of the International Builder’s Show are celebrated as leaders in green and sustainable designs by the NAHB.

“We’re extremely pleased with the industry’s overwhelming praise for 888 San Mateo. This latest award and the market’s incredible response are the result of Sares Regis Groups’steadfast commitment to sustainability and the design team’s ability to translate that vision into a desirable living community. 888 San Mateo is the latest example of our continued dedication and efforts to incorporate green, sustainable designs into next generation multifamily and mixed-use communities,” said Mr. Cox.

Having opened in 2014, 888 San Mateo is a LEED Platinum Certified multifamily community designed to embrace both luxury and sustainability. Each residence is equipped with low-volume water fixtures and Energy Star appliances, and all landscaping prominently features a variety of drought-resistant and California-native plant species to reduce water-use. Recycled wood-chip byproduct was also utilized for the wood-frame construction.

The transit-oriented development (TOD) is situated in a prime location just a bike ride from Downtown San Mateo and Burlingame with easy access to Caltrain. 888 San Mateo features sustainable materials and finishes, and provides residents with modern amenities such as a resort style pool & spa; expansive fitness center with cardio-theater; yoga and Pilates studio; outdoor kitchen and courtyard lounge, a luxurious community room, and the latest in technology amenities.
