Housing for Seniors Opens In New York Area
BEACON, NY - Commissioner VanAmerongen was on hand to celebrate the opening of Meadow Ridge II, which provides 52 beautiful and affordable rental units for low and very low income seniors in a picturesque portion of Beacon in Dutchess County. Meadow Ridge II was recently awarded the "Project of the Year" award by the New York State Association for Affordable Housing.

Apartments at Meadow Ridge II are large, bright and airy with beautiful scenic views. Several tenants invited Commissioner VanAmerongen into their apartments to show them off. One of those tenants said she feels "so lucky to be living here."

The Commissioner noted and applauded the efforts of DHCR's project manager for Meadow Ridge II, Jim Armstrong. "Jim's advice and counsel was instrumental in getting the job done," VanAmerongen said. Jim was also presented with a copy of the "Project of the Year" award given to the developers at last month's NYSAFAH conference

The Commissioner also thanked the many partners DHCR had in making Meadow Ridge II a reality, including syndicator First Sterling Financial, Key Bank, Ulster Savings Bank, Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus and Steve Gold, mayor of the City of Beacon. The project's development team consists of Hudson Valley Housing Development Fund Co, Inc., as the not-for-profit developer, Donald Swartz of Cernigla & Swartz, as the Architect, and Rondack Construction as the General Contractor.

VanAmerongen also thanked Peg O'Leary, who serves as Chief Executive Officer of both Hudson Valley Housing Development Fund and its parent corporation, Community Services Programs, Inc.. Community Services Programs has helped secure more than $55 million in public and private funding for important community development projects, ranging from historic preservation to the creation of childcare and youth facilities.
