NEW YORK, NY - One Jackson Square real estate developer Hines Interests - long recognized for exceptional residential and commercial development around the world - is proud to announce that President and CEO, Jeffrey Hines, was awarded the distinguished Green Building Design Award from Global Green USA at their 9th Annual New York Awards Ceremony on December 10th. Held at Pier Sixty of Chelsea Piers in Manhattan, the event was co-hosted by Katie Couric, David Hyde Pierce, Edward Norton and Mel Gibson, who came together in an effort to raise green awareness and its significance during the economic crisis.

Jeffrey Hines received this award as a result of his enduring commitment to sustainability, which is reflected in his leadership with the U.S. Green Building Council and the EPA's ENERGY STAR program. It is his sincere commitment to green living that inspired the creation of the nation's first green real estate development fund with CalPERS, in addition to the development of numerous sustainable offices towers across the country and Greenwich Village's first LEED-certified luxury residential condominium, One Jackson Square. Having taken a vow two years ago to create only LEED-certified buildings, Hines' award perfectly coincides with One Jackson Square's near completion or celebratory "topping-off." With an occupancy date of Spring 2009, One Jackson Square represents a new way of enlightened living and dedication to environmental stewardship and social responsibility. Its sustainable design features include an expansive green roof equal to more than 20-percent of the overall site area, an eco-friendly landscaping system that serves to reduce the building's overall water usage by half, ultra-efficient heating and cooling systems, environmentally-friendly building materials, and architectural design choices that maximize availability of natural light.

Global Green USA - the American affiliate of President Gorbachev's Green Cross International - was founded by Diane Meyer Simon in 1993. Global Green USA works to foster a global values shift towards a sustainable and secure future. Global Green USA hosts the Sustainable Design Awards in New York once a year to shine the light on some of today's innovative "designs" and the visionary leaders that create or implement them. Awards were also received by Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, Rosemary Ellis, Editor in Chief of Good Housekeeping, Robert S. Bucklin, Chief Corporate Banking Officer of Rabobank International, and Datuk Vinod Sekhar, Chairman/CEO of Green Rubber.
