The Annex Group Hires Industry Veteran Mark Branaman as Managing Partner to Lead Firm's Entry into Active Adult Housing Market

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -  The Annex Group®, a leading impact housing developer that creates affordable, workforce, student and market-rate housing communities, announces today the hiring of Mark Branaman as Managing Partner, Active Adult Communities. In this position, Branaman, an industry veteran who specializes in active adult community creation, will help The Annex Group enter the 55 and older rental housing market for the first time.

“As a company, we constantly seek out ways to fill housing needs that exist,” said Kyle Bach, CEO of The Annex Group. “Nationally, we’ve seen an increase in the need for communities that target the active adult population. These communities are similar to other housing types that we have a long history of successfully creating. This is a natural expansion of our business and our commitment to create communities that provide positive impact.”

Branaman, who is a degreed civil engineer has spent over the last decade in active adult and senior apartment housing development roles, will lead efforts to find, secure and ultimately build active adult communities around the United States.

“Joining The Annex Group allows me to continue working in a field that provides a very needed product that I’m passionate about: active adult rental housing,” said Branaman. “What drew me to The Annex Group is they realize active adult projects are not just a real estate play. As approximately 73 million baby boomers enter their senior years, with an estimated 10,000 turning 65 daily, the demand for housing tailored to their lifestyles is skyrocketing. This generation, characterized by a desire for active, engaged living, is seeking homes that are completely maintenance free, support their on-the-go lifestyles, and offer a vibrant sense of community. I’m looking forward to utilizing my experience to continue to create active adult communities that offer this growing population of people a range of resort style amenities and activities geared towards promoting health, wellness and social interaction.”

In his career, Branaman has developed more than $490 million in communities, many of which were in the active adult space.

“When entering a new market, we want to be able to hit the ground running, and Mark’s experience allows us to do just that,” said Tom Tomaszewski, President of The Annex Group. “With his expertise, we’re excited to expand our portfolio and offer more kinds of housing than we ever have before.”

The strategic entry into active adult communities comes just weeks after The Annex Group announced the hiring of student housing industry veteran Jason Taylor as Managing Partner, Public-Private Partnerships (P3). In this role, Taylor leads the company’s real estate development strategy for housing development projects on and near colleges and universities nationwide.
